Volunteer Opportunities

Meet some of our volunteers

In 2013, our volunteers were honoured by The Queen as they received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Our Volunteers, many of whom have been with us for years, work alongside staff at the hospice and within our charity shops. Our volunteer team are vital to us and we could not provide all our services without their incredible support.

We asked our Volunteers for their top reason for Volunteering.

“Volunteering is such a rewarding experience and having used the service I wanted to give something back”
“I love being busy and meeting different people”
“It’s such fun and I have made so many new friends”

Anne is our complementary therapist

“I started out as a Volunteer Therapist to give something back and to share the skills and gifts I have in Reiki and Reflexology. I love the pleasure and relaxation that my therapies give the patients and the short respite it gives them from their own world.” “I feel that it is an honour to be able to provide this for them.”

David is our driver for hospice patients

“In just under ten years as a Volunteer driver, I have met some very kind and dedicated nurses and have become friends with many of the patients. It has fulfilled my life and perhaps given a little to those in adversity.”

Lynda is one of many of our shop volunteers

“Now that I’m retired I don’t have the same contact with the public. Volunteering offers me the opportunity to meet new people, which I would not otherwise have. I am helping a very worthy cause too.”

Jennie & Maureen are our in-house volunteers

“Whether you are a patient, volunteer, visitor, therapist, or member of staff ….no matter who opens the door to greet you when you enter into this haven, there will be a smile and cheery hello to welcome you. As a volunteer, I treasure the many many years I have had the fortune to spend behind those doors.”
